The AMG® GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE marked a bold new chapter as the first hybrid model in AMG® history—engineered with direct inspiration from the championship-winning AMG®-Petronas Formula 1® hybrid racecars.
The ultra-compact, lightweight high-performance battery is paired with the handcrafted AMG® 2.0L inline-4 turbo engine with hybrid assist. The battery alone offers a continuous 94 horsepower and an electrifying peak boost of 201 horsepower for ten seconds. With an EPA-estimated range of 8 miles, the battery is able to be charged while driving through recouperation. In addition, battery power is able to be recharged through regenerative breaking, where the power that is stopped through breaking is pushed back into the battery. AMG® engineers that worked closely with the AMG®-Petronas team created new cooling modules—just millimeters thin—ensuring that all 560 cells in the battery are cooled individually. This intelligent thermal management system keeps the battery around 113°F, the most optimal operating temperature, with coolant circulating through a heat exchanger and radiator.

Relentless innovation is the hallmark of Mercedes-AMG®, and the S 63 S E PERFORMANCE is a legacy starter—born from the same designs as the AMG®-Petronas Formula 1® hybrid racecars.
The ultra-compact, lightweight high-performance battery is paired with the handcrafted AMG® 4.0L 48 biturbo engine. This battery has double the number of cells as the 6.1-kWh battery, allowing for a continuous output of 94 horsepower and a peak boost of 188 horsepower for 10 seconds. Using the same AMG® engineered cooling method with a new non-conductive liquid, coolant flows through and covers all 1,200 cells of the battery individually, eventually going through the heat exchanger and radiator into the outside air. With an EPA-estimated range of 16 miles, this battery can be recharged by regenerative breaking. In certain “Sport” modes, the engine kicks back power to the battery and allows it to recharge. Even as the vehicle accelerates and decelerates, the AMG® high-performance battery can retain the power capacity needed to reach that peak performance promised by Mercedes-AMG®.

Paired seamlessly with the handcrafted AMG® 3.0L inline-6 turbo charged engine, the ultra-compact and lightweight high performance battery embodies cutting-edge innovation in the AMG® Hybrid vehicles with an EPA-estimated range of 63 miles. Charging this battery is possible through regenerative breaking or through a level 2 or 3 (Supercharger) charging system. This advanced 400-volt system reserves 21.2 kW of its total 28.6 kW capacity for everyday driving, delivering exceptional range—more than any AMG® hybrid before it—while the remaining energy is unleashed as an electrifying boost, reserved for peak performance moments.
