AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT


AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT allows the driver to choose different modes that can determine how the engine, transmission, suspension, steering, exhaust, and other systems operate. Each mode provides a different driving experience to best suit driver preferences or terrain.

While mode choices vary throughout the AMG® line, all vehicles with AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT provide Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ mode. Depending on the AMG® model, other modes may include Individual, Race, Slippery, Sand, Rock, and Trail modes.
 

Dynamic Select - Comfort Mode

Comfort is the default setting when the vehicle is first turned on. Starting in 2nd gear, it provides earlier, smoother shifting for comfortable and refined cruising. This mode engages the ECO-Start/Stop system for the best fuel efficiency.

 

Dynamic Select - Sport Mode

Sport starts in 1st gear, with more short, sporty shifting that’s 20% faster than comfort for a more spirited and fun driving. This mode stiffens the suspension, induces more throttle response, and has more dynamic steering.

 

Sport+ provides increased agility and driving pleasure with extremely short shift times. This mode can automatically blip the throttle on the downshift to match engine speed as the car slows. It has a more aggressive shifting, and upshifts come at a higher RPM.

 

Dynamic Select - Race Mode

Race, available in models like the C 63 S and GT S, is the most aggressive mode, which engages ESP® Sport and Race Start. It is designed for extremely dynamic driving on closed racing circuits where all driving parameters are set for maximum performance.

 

Dynamic Select - Slippery Mode

Slippery is for conditions like rain or snow, reducing power output with smoother gear changes and delivering a flatter torque curve to improve traction and stability.

 

Dynamic Select - Individual Mode

Individual allows for more customization and storage where drivers can select their own driving characteristics such as suspension, exhaust, drive system, and transmission.

 

 

Sand, Rock, and Trail driving programs are perfect for off-roading in AMG® SUV Models, such as in the G 63 and the GLS 63.
 

Dynamic Select - Sand Mode

Sand is best for terrain on loose, sandy dunes and beaches. This mode makes adjustments to the suspension and 4MATIC®+ all-wheel drive system for maximum grip and steering.

 

Dynamic Select - Rock Mode

Rock is designed for challenging, rocky terrain, requiring axle articulation and lifting of one or more wheels.

 

Dynamic Select - Trail Mode

Trail is suited for driving on soft, muddy, and slippery ground, enhancing performance and traction by raising the suspension for additional ground clearance of 2.16 inches and automatically lowering again from 44 mph.

 

Electronic Stability Program

AMG® 3-Stage Electronic Stability Program


Some AMG®’s have AMG® 3-stage ESP® (electronic stability program) that allows for three stages of control for even more driving dynamics.

With “normal ESP® on, the computer provides full assistance for a high level of safety, sensing understeer or oversteer and works to apply the brakes on one wheel to counteract if needed.

With “ESP® sport mode” activated, the computer allows for a certain amount of oversteer to provide quick turns and better steering response when cornering. The driver can allow wheel slip to its limit of control before the system reacts.

With “ESP® off” the system is inactive and the computer takes no action to correct loss of control unless the driver applies emergency braking. This stage is usually recommended to use on close racing circuits. This feature is standard on the SLS AMG®, SL 63 AMG® Roadster, and the C 63 AMG® Sedan.

4MATIC®


Regardless of driving conditions, drivers can feel a sense of confidence and control in 4MATIC®, the drivetrain on many AMG® models.

AMG® Performance 4MATIC® Variable All-Wheel Drive is an intelligent all-wheel drive system that precisely engages and powers all four wheels to provide the best possible traction. Under normal conditions, torque is evenly channeled and distributed to the front and rear wheels through a center differential for sporty balance and agile handling. When traction conditions change, 4MATIC® instantly identifies which tire has lost traction and expertly maximizes control by providing the other tires the necessary torque power increase to compensate. A multi-disc clutch and AMG® specific electrohydraulic control integrated into the rear differential allows for variable torque distribution, transferring as much as 100 percent of available engine torque to one wheel.

AMG® 4MATIC® Permanent All-Wheel Drive doesn’t have as much flexibility for varying distribution of torque but rather functions like a typical AWD drive system, with a constant, fixed split of power between the front and the rear wheels (31% to 69% for sedans, coupes, and cabriolets; 40% to 60% for SUVS).

AMG® Performance 4MATIC®+ Variable All-Wheel Drive allows for a seamless transition from all-wheel drive to rear wheel drive. In Drift Mode, ESP® is turned off and 4MATIC®+ effectively switches off all-wheel traction, allowing 100% of available engine torque to be diverted to the rear wheels by disconnecting the front axle for controlled drifting.
For further traction control and stability, AMG® electronically controlled limited rear slip differential can adjust rear wheel torque distribution by engaging its multi-disc clutches to correct any unwanted driving behavior such as wheel spin and redistributes torque to reduce slip and optimize traction when accelerating from a standing start, cornering or changing lanes at high speed. It continuously adjusts to manage optimum torque distribution between the two rear wheels. The clutch engages incrementally, varying the differential locking rate, reducing rear wheel RPM differences as required to enhance performance.

AMG® DYNAMICS


AMG® DYNAMICS is a range of dynamic control programs integrated with AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT’s Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, RACE and Individual drive modes. It works in conjunction with ESP® by adjusting how much pivot or “yaw” the vehicle does by inner rear wheel braking when going around corners during fast, agile driving. The intelligent pilot control reacts seamlessly and unnoticeably, predicting the desired vehicle behavior based on the actions of the driver and data from the sensors.

The four different AMG® DYNAMICS modes are Basic, Advanced, Pro, and Master.

Basic is set to the Slippery and Comfort drive programs, which offers extremely stable handling with high yaw damping.

Advanced is assigned in the Sport program. This mode offers a neutral vehicle balance, with lower yaw damping, lower steering angle, and enhanced agility makes driving on long, winding roads a breeze.

Pro is activated in the Sport+ program, which offers more dynamic driving maneuvers while increasing agility and precise handling when taking corners.

Master, which is only available for the GT C and the GT R, is assigned to the RACE drive program. This mode is aimed at drivers who want to experience dynamism and the driving pleasure on closed-off racing circuits. Master fully exploits the dynamic potential of the vehicle, ensuring maximum agility with a low steer angle requirement, and a highly neutral vehicle balance.

AMG® Track Pace


For the most ambitious-AMG® drivers, AMG® Track Pace is an app that is integrated with the MBUX multimedia system in the vehicle to record numerous vehicle specific data such as speed and acceleration while driving on the race track.

This data is used for the driver to analyze and evaluate to improve their driving skills and lap times. A real race track experience can be achieved using the MBUX augmented reality function that shows start/finish, track sections, and even a ghost car on the multimedia display or head-up display.
